Hanley Center for Health Leadership and Education Medical Student Loan Program

The Hanley Center Medical Student Loan Program was established in 1959 by the Maine Medical Association (MMA) to make loans available to Maine residents enrolled in or accepted to approved medical schools. During the past 50 years, more than $5 million has been loaned to deserving medical students to help them obtain a medical education and, hopefully, to serve the people of Maine during their careers. Depending on resources available, loan amounts can be up to $20,000 during the four years of medical school.

The Hanley Center for Health Leadership and Education Scholarship Fund

The Hanley Center Scholarship Fund was established by Dr. Jo Linder to provide scholarships to medical students enrolled in a MD or DO program who demonstrate financial need and have a connection to Maine.  Since the establishment of the Fund, it has grown with several generous donations made through the MMA/Hanley Center’s Annual Fundraising Campaign and other fund-raising efforts, including an annual golf tournament.  Applicants must be at least a 2nd year medical student (MD or DO) in good standing.  A limited number of scholarships may be granted each year.

The Aroostook County Medical Society Scholarship Fund

The Aroostook County Medical Society (ACMS) disbanded several years ago, and they granted their remaining funds to the Hanley Center Scholarship Fund to provide support for students from Aroostook County who were enrolled in a medical school.  Scholarships up to $1,000 per student will be awarded until all funds are expended.

The Androscoggin County Medical Association Financial Grants for Medical Students from Maine

The Androscoggin County Medical Association offers awards of $1000 to medical student applicants from Maine. As our funds are somewhat limited, we plan to limit this offer to students who can demonstrate that they resided in the state prior to their enrollment in medical school and have an intention to practice in Maine. For similar reasons we cannot promise that each and every applicant will receive an award. These awards are free of any obligation and can be used for any expense the student deems appropriate. These awards are available to both MD and DO degree applicants.

The Association is making available secondary $500 grants to students who apply again, a year or more following an initial $1000 grant. It is our pleasure to support our young physicians in training.
