One-on-One Executive Coaching
Whether you’re leading a team, coming into a new role, managing others for the first time, or taking on different responsibilities, you can benefit from working with a coach. The Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership offers executive coaching in the form of a one-on-one confidential relationship between coach and client.
Why work with a coach?
Benefits include:
- Support in identifying and working toward professional development objectives
- Understanding and developing one’s own leadership style
- Neutral, third-party, objective feedback and guidance
- Improved collaboration and communication
- Becoming more effective in one’s work and relationships
A coach can act as a sounding board, helping the client reflect and observe habits and behaviors that may or may not serve them well and then guide the client in creating a plan for change or continued development. Our coaches often say that they provide the structure, and the client provides the content – the coaches hold up a proverbial mirror to the client to help him or her get clear on both present state and potential objectives, then support the client as s/he works toward those objectives.
Confidentiality is a key element in our coaching process: content discussed between coach and client will be held in strict confidentiality by the coach.
Sessions
Typically, coach and client will meet in person for an initial conversation to assess mutual fit, establish expectations, and discuss logistics of the coaching engagement.
Duration of engagement and frequency of meetings are determined on a case-by-case basis, in conjunction with the sponsoring individual or organization; we encourage a minimum of four coach/client sessions. Regardless of the duration or frequency, consistency of meetings (meeting on a regular basis) is key to establishing rapport and momentum.
Assessments/Tools
Depending on the length of the engagement, our coaches incorporate various tools to facilitate the coaching process, such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (a personality assessment tool) or a 360’ feedback instrument, which gathers observations from the client’s superiors, colleagues, and direct reports regarding the client’s style and provides anonymized feedback to the client to support his/her ongoing development.
